Transportation Data Sources

Transit. Data for transit is far more complete than for
the private auto and highways system. The National Transit Database
(NTD) provides tables on all aspects of transit operations for
nearly all public operators. The operators must provide the
data as a condition of receiving federal funds. The data is
aggregated to the level of the transit organizations and for
whole years, with separate figures for each mode (motor bus,
heavy rail, etc.)
Although there is a link from TranStats to the
NTD, it seems awkward. The home page of the NTD can be accessed
directly via this link.
